[White Jade Crouching Tiger]
White Jade Crouching Tiger, bright, 5.6 cm long, 2.2 cm wide, and 1.1 cm high. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The tiger is made of white jade and is in a crouching shape. The long tail stretches forward and sticks to the body side. The tiger shaped jade carving works with wide and deep slope lines to show the body and tail stripes were first seen in the Shijiahe culture of the Neolithic Age in Tianmen, Hubei Province, and survived the Shang and Zhou dynasties. The tiger button seal was occasionally seen in the Han and Yuan dynasties, and was very rare in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The tiger jade carvings unearthed in archaeology are thin and small, and are mostly used as ornaments.
