Yue Kiln Green Glazed Melon Ridge Holding Pot, Song Dynasty, 23 cm high, 12.5 cm caliber, 9.1 cm foot diameter
The kettle has a straight neck, a four-petal melon ridge oval belly, a meander on one side of the shoulder, and a flat handle on the other side. There is a double strip system between the flow and the handle, which encircles the foot. The whole body is painted with blue-green glaze, and the outer bottom is carved with the words “Taiping Wuyin”. “Taiping Wuyin” refers to the third year of Taiping Xingguo in the Northern Song Dynasty (978)
This is a porcelain with a clear chronology, which provides a standard for the dating of Yue porcelain. This holding pot reflects the characteristics of the holding pot of Yue kiln in the early Northern Song Dynasty, such as the four-petal melon ridge belly, the short pot flow, etc., which provides important material data for the study of the evolution of the holding pot of Yue kiln.
