Xicun Kiln Green and White Glaze Carved Phoenix Pot, Song Dynasty, 16.8 cm high, 4.2 cm caliber, 8.4 cm foot diameter
The mouth is in the shape of a phoenix head, with a high crown, large eyes, and a curved beak. The corolla on the top of the phoenix is the water injection nozzle. There are three strings on the long neck, a round belly and a wide circle of feet. One side of the shoulder is equipped with a curved long stream, and the other side is equipped with a cylindrical handle. The stream and the handle are post-repair. The whole body is painted with blue and white glaze, and the glaze layer is relatively thin. The upper part of the outer wall of the abdomen is carved with tangled flower patterns, and the lower part is carved with banana leaf patterns.
Although the shape of this phoenix head pot originated from the implements influenced by Persian style in the Sui and Tang dynasties, its abdomen has its own unique style. In the Sui and Tang dynasties, the belly of the phoenix head pot was mostly slender and decorated with patterns. The belly of the pot was round and the decorative method was carved flowers. Compared with the samples collected from the kiln site survey, it can be seen that this pot is the product of Xicun kiln in Guangdong
Xicun kiln porcelain is mainly used for export. At present, there are few unearthed and handed down in China, while there are a large number of unearthed in Southeast Asia, especially in the Philippines.
