[Ding Kiln White Glaze Printing Chrysanthemum Phoenix Pattern Plate]

Ding Kiln White Glaze Printing Chrysanthemum Phoenix Pattern Plate, Song Dynasty, height 4.3 cm, caliber 19.2 cm, foot diameter 12.7 cm
The plate is open, flat bottom, arc wall, round foot, and copper mouth is inlaid at the unglazed part of the exposed tire along the mouth. The white glaze is applied all over the body, and the glaze color is white and gray. The spiral marks left by the casting and the “tear marks” left by the dipping glaze are visible on the outer wall. The inner edge of the vessel is patterned for one week, the inner wall is patterned with lotus patterns, and the center of the plate is patterned with two phoenix and chrysanthemum patterns. The outsole is engraved with a poem inscribed by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. The poem said:
It is ancient, elegant and hearty, and the name of the Song Dynasty is full of precious pottery
The quality of Yunyun’s pearly light can be used as a reference, and the carved birds are lifelike
Hold the bright moon in your palm and prove the old cause in the poem
There are tens of thousands of red cherry trees, and a plate of amber is glowing
“Meng Chunyu” was signed later. Seal with “Bide” and “Langrun”
The forceful pattern lines, layered composition and the phoenix pattern with the tapestry pattern as a copy on this white porcelain plate of Ding kiln complement each other under the warm white glaze. Although this plate is not a masterpiece among the Ding ware handed down in the Song Dynasty, such as black impurities in the white glaze, and it is not very regular to repair the feet, but the inscription of poems by Emperor Qianlong can also prove that the Ding ware was favored in the palace at that time. This plate once flowed out of the palace. In the 1950s, it was bought back by the National Cutural Heritage Administration and transferred to the Palace Museum for collection
In the Northern Song Dynasty, Dingzhou was an important commercial town where merchants gathered. It not only produced porcelain, but also cast gold and silver, and was also a distribution center for silk fabrics. In this environment, Ding kiln craftsmen will naturally combine the molding techniques of gold and silver wares and the patterns of silk fabrics with the firing techniques of white porcelain. Therefore, the printing decoration on the white porcelain of Ding Kiln is relatively mature at the beginning and has a high artistic level.
