Jade flower and bird comb

[Jade flower and bird comb]

Jade flower and bird comb, Tang Dynasty, 10.5 cm long, 3.5 cm wide and 0.4 cm thick
The combed jade is white and slightly green, semi-circular and thin. The outer arc is decorated with hollow flower and bird patterns. There are three flowers in the middle and one bird on each side. The comb teeth are concentrated at the bottom chord, with dense teeth and small spacing, and the bottom end is flush
Women in the Tang Dynasty often wore a comb on their head for decoration. This jade comb is thin and has short teeth. It may not be used to comb hair, but should be placed on the head. From the Tang Dynasty to the Five Dynasties, the jade ornaments used for the head were generally thin, and the quality of the jade was excellent, the surface was less undulating, and the patterns were mostly painted with negative lines, and the lines were straight and dense. These characteristics were clearly reflected on the jade comb.
