Zhenzi Flying Frost Mirror, Tang Dynasty, with a face diameter of 21.5 cm
The mirror is in sunflower shape with round buttons. The upper part of the button is decorated with auspicious clouds supporting the moon pattern, and the lower part is decorated with pool water and mountain stones. A lotus leaf grows from the pool, which is the button seat. On the left, there is an Emei Guanbo Dai, sitting and playing the piano, with an incense table in front and a bamboo forest behind. There is a phoenix on the right, perched on the stone, and above the phoenix is decorated with six petals and two branches of flowers. The outer area has an inscription belt for one week: “Phoenix double mirror south gold dress, yin and yang match each other, the sun and moon meet each other, white jade hibiscus box, jade jade jade jade belt, concentric people, heart to heart, heart to heart, heart to heart to heart.” The mirror inscription means to praise the exquisite casting of the bronze mirror, while expressing sincere love. The first sentence “Phoenix Twin Mirrors” conveyed the message that this bronze mirror should have been paired at that time
The bronze mirrors of this kind of image are called “Zhenzi Feishuang” mirrors, which are mostly unearthed in Jiangsu Province. In addition to the above types, there are also those with the inscription “Zhenzi Feishuang” on the button, those with the turtle button and those with the square mirror and the inscription “Hou Jinzhi”.
