[Moon Palace Mirror]
Moon Palace Mirror, Tang Dynasty, 14.5 cm in diameter
The mirror is in the shape of eight-leaf rhombus, the inner area on the back is concave, and the pattern is embossed with a moon palace picture. The center is a luxuriant osmanthus tree, and the middle part of the trunk is raised and hollowed out as a mirror button. On one side, Chang’e dances with her sleeves, on the other side, white rabbits pound medicine, and toads jump below. Mirror rim is decorated with cloud pattern
Before the Tang Dynasty, bronze mirrors were mostly round or square, and fancy mirrors began to be popular in the Tang Dynasty, among which the diamond shape was the most distinctive
