The body of this can is white and its shape is neat. The glaze color breaks through the single color and is more decorative, creating a precedent for the colorful Tang tri-color process. The combination of honeysuckle pattern and lotus petal pattern is the decorative theme of Buddhist art. The exact age of this jar can be examined. Its shape and decoration are of great significance to the study of religious concepts and art in the Northern Qi Dynasty
This jar was unearthed in 1958 at the tomb of Li Yun in Puyang, Henan Province. Li Yun is the general of riding in the Northern Qi Dynasty. According to the unearthed epitaph, the tomb was the joint burial of Li Yun and his wife, and was buried in the seventh year of the reign of Wu Ping in the Northern Qi Dynasty (576), from which we can determine the lower limit of the age of this jar. Because of its exact age, its shape and decoration are of great significance to the study of religious concepts and art in the Northern Qi Dynasty. Another yellow-glazed and green-colored pot unearthed from the tomb is now collected in the Henan Museum. Its shape and glaze color are the same as this one, but the four systems are square, which is different from it
Lead-yellow glaze belongs to low-temperature lead glaze. The invention of low-temperature lead glaze was much later than that of blue glaze, but it was quite common in the Han Dynasty. It is characterized by strong glaze luster, smooth surface, clear and transparent glaze layer, like glass, but low hardness, easy to scratch, and poor chemical stability. The main varieties of traditional low-temperature color glaze include green, yellow, blue, red, purple, etc.
