Chushi Shiding Epitaph, Western Jin Dynasty, 47 cm high and 23 cm wide
The second year of Yongjia’s reign in the Western Jin Dynasty (308) was marked with epitaphs. There are 10 lines of 185 characters in the inscription, in official script. The main content is the resume of Shi Ding and his death. This epitaph is well preserved, beautifully written and well engraved. The main contents of the epitaph can be related to the stone epitaph. The two epitaphs are published together, which is very rare. Unearthed in Mapo Village, north of Luoyang, Henan in 1919. It was once collected by Zhou Jimu
Recorded text: Shi Ding in Qingming Village, Aicidu Town, Leling, the first official, is the third grandson of Duke Chang’an, the first minister of the army, and the son of the Duke of Chengyang. Be honest and upright, have lofty ambitions, and have the courage to make decisions. The county’s meritorious and filial piety and state division are not enough, but the scholar is not enough. Serve the father’s village. In the first year of Yongjia’s reign, after the traitor took Sang and broke Yedu, he was so violent that he marched in the northeast. On September 5 of that year, he attacked the besieged marquis. The marquis’s relatives led the people of the city and fought against the enemy in the face of danger. The city fell on the seventh day, and the marquis Hong. Ding and Di Mai are about twenty eight years old. It’s really sad that I failed to achieve my ambition! All our people mourn. On July 19, 2002, he was buried on the right side of the marquis’s tomb, and the end of the stone publication period was to show the afterlife. Liu’s wife, Peiguo, has the name Guihua. The father’s word is Gu at the end.
