Mesh pattern, also known as grid pattern and square pattern, is one of the original patterns of ceramic decoration. The reticulated pattern originated from the colored pottery of Yangshao culture in the Neolithic Age, and is a reflection of the primitive pottery and aesthetic consciousness of the fishing and hunting life in the prehistoric Neolithic Age. From the Eastern Han Dynasty to the early Six Dynasties, reticulated patterns prevailed on celadon. After the Eastern Jin Dynasty, reticulated pattern was no longer popular. As a border decoration on Ming and Qing porcelain, reticulated patterns occasionally appear.
