[Celadon Meditation Buddha]
Celadon Meditation Buddha, 16.5cm high
The statue of Buddha has a bun with pekoe, a beard on the lips, a shoulder-length cassock, a Zen meditation seal on the hands, and a sitting on the back. Its exterior is glazed, but it is cracked in many places. From the perspective of molding techniques, this image comes from Jiangsu and Zhejiang, where celadon firing is relatively developed
In the Western Jin Dynasty, the southern Buddha statues often appeared on the same utensil together with the traditional Chinese gods. Most of the Buddha statues were accessory decorations of the utensil, and some appeared on the bronze mirror and the barn jar. This Meditation Buddha is relatively large and is not an ornament on a barn jar. It is a rare statue treasure in the early stage of Buddhism in China
This Buddha statue was donated by Chen Wanli in 1958
