[Caozhen Stele]

Caozhen Stele, the Three Kingdoms Wei Dynasty, is 82 cm high and 122 cm wide
Steles of the State of Wei during the Three Kingdoms Period. There are 20 lines of 235 characters in the inscription on the tablet, and 30 lines of 485 characters in the inscription on the tablet, in official script. Unearthed outside the south gate of Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, in the 23rd year of Daoguang (1843), it was broken at that time. This section is the middle of the monument. The inscription is engraved on the positive side of the tablet, the name of the person who erected the tablet is engraved on the negative side of the tablet, and the dragon pattern is engraved on the side. According to Zhu Xuzeng’s “Notes on the Opening of Benefitful Zhai”, Xu Song was the first person to name the monument. The textual research of Wang Yun’s “The Book of the Golden and Stone Eyes in the Twelve Chapters” is relatively detailed, and there have been more than ten textual researches in the past hundred years. Cao Zhen was the nobleman of the Cao Wei regime in the Three Kingdoms, and finally served as the supreme military commander of the State of Wei. After his death, the old officials set up a memorial tablet for him. According to Fang Ruo’s Essays on the School Stele, the words “thief” under the word “Shu” in the eighth line of the inscription and “Shu” on the word “thief” in the eleventh line of the inscription were chiseled off when they were unearthed, and then the local people chiseled off the words “Zhuge Liang” and so on. The text of Cao Zhen’s inscription is neat, vigorous and dignified. The inscriptions are well preserved, just like new inscriptions. The content of the inscriptions is extremely important. This tablet is the best of the surviving Han steles
