Stele of Zheng Jixuan, Wei’s Order

[Wei Shi Ling Zheng Jixuan Stele]

Vertical: 133.5 cm, horizontal: 92 cm. Donated by Zhu Yiyu and his family
This is the initial rubbings after the monument was upgraded in the 51st year of the Qianlong reign. There are two rubbings. There are more than 20 words left after the “driving thief” on the monument. Huang Yi collected it and sealed it with the seal of “Jinshi obtained by Komatsu” and “Han Studio”
The monument was erected in the third year of Hanzhongping (186). The inscription records Zheng Jixuan’s political integrity and the date of his death. Fang Shuo commented that his book is “simple and ancient in structure, elegant in style and spirit, and excellent in official culture”. The monument is now in the Han Stele Room of Jining Museum, Shandong Province
The stele of Zheng Jixuan in the Han Dynasty, which is still in the sun and very close to the wall, can only be touched, but can not be spread. Most of the early rubbings are only the tablet yin. Weng Fanggang’s drawings and inscriptions are very detailed. He and Zhang Lichen were deeply disappointed to see that the lower part of the monument was sealed by earth. In the 51st year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign (1786), Weng Fanggang urged him to upgrade the monument “to expand the front”. Huang Yi moved the tablet with Liu Yongquan, Wang Suoli and others to remove the buried soil, so the tablet Yang got 71 words, another 4 and a half words, and the tablet Yin got 157 words. Weng Fanggang’s “The Stone of the Han Dynasty” records that “the inscription and the shade sent by Komatsu are made of extremely wide and long paper, with the middle stone book left blank on the four sides. The height of the inscription is four feet and six inches, and the width is three inches. The forehead on the front is not visible, and the cover on the top is completely covered with no stone skin.” The stone on the tablet is extremely loose, but fortunately the unearthed stone is undamaged. Huang Yi also “made two stone pillars to clip it, and embedded it firmly”, “and inscribed the inscription on the side of the tablet for the purpose”, which can be described as good intentions. It has taken a lot of work to upgrade the stele, but it is even more difficult to expand the stele. Komatsu said to Tanxi Zayun, “The stone is the most loose, and when you expand it, you want to go to the lower seat to raise it, and check whether the lower half has the word. Because the stone is damaged by one movement, you dare not be pious.” Therefore, even if the initial rubbing of the stele, it is not always able to show the full view of the stele, especially in the old age. The two stones under the tablet are inlaid with low outside and high inside, so the rubbings are short and the tablet is long inside
