Painted lacquered cloud-shaped bowl, Western Han Dynasty, 8.7 cm high, 23 cm caliber, 14.1 cm foot diameter
This lacquer bowl was unearthed from the Western Han Dynasty tomb at No. 28, Jiangling Gaotai, Jingzhou. The cup is made of thick wood. It is chiseled with a single wood. It has an open mouth, a sharp round lip, a neck, a deep arc belly, a round bottom, and a short circle of feet. The surface and upper part of the inner wall are chestnut brown, and the inner bottom and lower part of the inner wall are painted red. The tire wall is thin, and the inner sole has no lines. The upper part of the inner wall and the middle part of the outer wall are painted in red and ochre on the chestnut brown ground with concentric circular patterns and cirrus shaped simplified phoenix patterns. The patterns are regular and orderly arranged. The grooves under the outer wall mouth are decorated with dots and lines. The scroll cloud pattern and simplified phoenix pattern on the bowl are common patterns on the lacquer ware of the Western Han Dynasty.
