Pottery crouching pig

[Pottery squatting pig]

Pottery squatting pig, Han, 8.8 cm long, 10.5 cm wide, and 3.4 cm high

Pigs are argillaceous grey pottery. The pig’s head is raised, and the front hooves are firmly propped up. The shape is simple and seems to be made at will, but it captures the moment when the pig sleeps to wakes up and is ready to get up to look for food, which is vivid and vivid

The pottery pigs unearthed at the Hemudu Neolithic Cultural Site in Yuyao, Zhejiang Province, are very similar to the current domestic pigs, indicating that the domestication of pigs at that time has taken shape. Although the shape of this grey pottery squatting pig is abstract, its musculoskeletal structure is fabricated quite accurately, which shows the sculptor’s careful observation in daily life
