[Sanyang Zun]
Sanyang Zun, 52 cm in height, 41.2 cm in caliber and 51.3 kg in weight
It is a large mouth and wide shoulder type, with thick lips folded outside, and three convex strings on the thin neck. The shoulders are decorated with three high-relief sheep’s heads in the form of curled horns at equal distance, and the eye-shaped decoration with the back pattern as the ground. The abdomen is fatter, and the decoration is more gorgeous. There are three groups of animal face patterns on the retroflex ground. The most vivid eyes on the animal face are highlighted with exaggerated techniques, which adds a solemn atmosphere. The ring foot is high, with two convex stringed lines on the top and three large circular holes at equal distance in the middle. This is one of the typical features of the bronze ware of the Shang Dynasty. The lower part of the ring foot is decorated with six groups of animal face patterns on the return ground. The pattern layout of the whole utensil is complex, complex and not disorderly, and it is the largest of the same kind of utensil found in China at present
This statue was cast twice. First, the statue body was cast, and a hole was reserved at the corresponding position of the shoulder, and then a pottery model was built on the hole to cast a sheep’s head. This reflects the wisdom and skills of our ancestors three thousand years ago, and shows that the smelting and casting technology has reached a high level at that time
Judging from the characteristics of big mouth, wide shoulder, low body, high circle, three big holes on the circle foot, red tape decoration, gorgeous and solemn shape, this statue should belong to the late Shang Dynasty, and its age is about the 13th century BC
The Sanyangzun is dignified, rich and beautifully made. It is one of the best ancient bronzes in China
