- Description:
Dong Bangda (1699-1769), a collector of the Academy, drew two sets of axes of the “Ten Sceneries of the West Lake”, which were respectively made after the first and second southern patrols. The two sets are different in size, but the images are similar. They are all from the description of ten scenes in Dong Bangda’s book “Forty Sceneries of the West Lake”, which he presented before his first southern tour. The two “Willow Waves Smell Warblers” in this exhibition depict the scenery of the “Willow Waves Bridge” on the West Lake. The bridge is located in the Imperial Garden of the Southern Song Dynasty. Willows are planted on the bank, which is like waves in the wind, hence its name.
