A long opal is embedded in the center of the oval head with a lotus petal shaped seat. The yellow green gemstone faintly shows the knot of long fibers in the stone, giving out a sense of mystery. Two or three circles of small turquoise petals are paved on the periphery of the gemstone, and the colors of the two stones set off each other, which is very eye-catching. The side and back of the head are the patterns of rolled leaves, and the metalwork is meticulous. The opal is one of the gemstones loved by the court of the Qing Dynasty. It is often used as the inlay of the phoenix crown, imperial bead and other important royal costumes. This opal is a quartz gem. Because the minerals contain fibers arranged in parallel and silk luster, it is very popular to produce a cat’s eye like effect.
