  • Image Number: K1C003631N000000000PAE
  • Dynasty: Qing dynasty
  • Category: Jades
  • Function: Container
  • Material: Minerals/Jade Jewelry/Jade
  • Description:
The bright white jade is carved into a small cup that imitates the shape of the Chinese Bronze Jue in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, but the mouth edge is carved with small flowers hanging around, and the two handles are carved into curly leaves. Cut a poppy flower from the center of the bottom of the utensil, with four broad petals wrapped up on the utensil wall and three feet. The embroidered back cloth covering the jade cup was bound with a yellow slip from the Qing Palace. The 17th character of “A small jade cup was presented in Kashgar on the 10th day of July in the 22nd year of Jiaqing” is ambiguous. It can be seen that this piece was imported from Kashgar in Xinjiang in 1817. From the exquisite carving, it should be made by Indian jade workers. It may be designed for export to China.
