The shape of the stone inkstone is like a round drum. Its waist is convex and it gathers up and down. The circular canal around the inkstone surface is the ink pool. Stone drum inscriptions are carved on the bottom of the vessel. The stone drum, also known as “Liejie”, is the earliest extant inscription stone in China. A set of ten stone drum inkstones are numbered A, B, C, D, V, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren and Gui respectively. It is made by imitating its shape. The stone inkstone is placed in a gold lacquer box, with the same inscription on the surface as on the bottom of the inkstone. There is a brocade pad inside and outside the box.
