- Description:
The Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty was named Hongli, the fourth son of Emperor Yongzheng (1723-1735). He ascended the throne in the 13th year of Emperor Yongzheng, and the year was Qianlong (1736-1795). Emperor Qianlong was fond of promoting culture and art. During the period of Prince Bao, he often copied sketches of “recreational painting, and also good at landscapes, flowers and plants, orchids and bamboos, and plum blossoms”. There are many existing calligraphy and painting works of Emperor Qianlong, mainly copying ancient paintings. Most of them are about landscapes, flowers and birds. Their paintings are mainly freehand brushwork with simple composition. The picture shows a misty rain, weeping willows and bamboos on the bank. The fisherman on the boat casts his net with one oar and one coir. Although the skill of simple brush strokes for spotting people, rocks and trees is not as skilled as that of professional painters, the brush strokes are flexible and carefree, which is quite interesting for literati painting. The composition of the painting is simple, fresh and natural. It is the same as the legendary Emperor Xuanzong (1425-1435) “Yanbo Fishing” in the National Palace Museum. It should be a copy of the painting.
