On the first day of the first month of the 26th year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1761), the Imperial Celestial Supervisor of the observatory observed the astronomical phenomenon of “the sun and the moon rise together, and the five stars join the beads”, which foreshadowed that the year was “Haiyu Yan An, and the year was full of grain”. Xu Yang was ordered to draw and record this auspicious omen once in a lifetime. On the New Year’s Day, civil and military officials went to Beijing to make a pilgrimage, and people in the market also went out to pay New Year’s greetings.
