  • Description:
Emperor Qianlong had a good knowledge of Tibetan. He personally wrote the article “The saying that Wusi Zang is Wei Zang”, which explains from the sound meaning that “Wusi Zang”, which was used to call Tibet in the Yuan and Ming dynasties, was “Wei Zang” at that time, because the pronunciation of “Wusi (meaning central)” in Tibetan was simplified to “Wei”. He emphasized that “Wei” is a transliteration of Tibetan language, not a Chinese meaning of “Wei Suo”; Then he explained that the reason why “Wei Zang” was called “pre Zang” and “post Zang” was that the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama lived separately. Li Wangdu, who copied this article, was a Jinshi in the 22nd year of Qianlong’s reign. He was once the chief reader of Sikuquanshu.
