Liu Yu was born in Wuxian County, Jiangsu Province during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795) in the Qing Dynasty. He is good at copying ancient monuments and is only inferior to Qiu Ying (about 1494-1552). The painted figures are precise and vivid, and the arrangement of trees, stone railings, corridors, flowers, fine grass, playthings and utensils are wonderful.
