- Description:
Yun Shouping (1633-1690 AD) was born in Wujin, Jiangsu Province. He was gifted at poetry at the age of eight. He was also good at painting flowers and landscapes. He was praised as one of the six masters in the early Qing Dynasty. Although most of Yun Shouping’s late works focus on flower sketching, this 46 year old landscape painting, using bare pen and light ink, depicts the scenery on both sides of the river with calm and steady momentum, which not only gains the verve of natural mountains and rivers, but also highlights the painter’s profound literary accomplishment with the long inscription and postscript.
