  • Description:
Zhang Zhao (1691? 1745), a native of Lou County, Jiangsu Province, named Qinglan and Detian Jushi, was a scholar in the forty-eight years of Kangxi, and entered Zhinan Study in the fifty fourth year of Kangxi. Zhang Zhao went through the three dynasties of Kang, Yong and Qian. In the first year of Qianlong’s reign, he was once deprived of his post and imprisoned for Miao affairs, and was pardoned several months later. Zhang Zhao’s style of writing is similar to that of Dong Qichang, and goes back to Mi Fu. Emperor Qianlong praised Zhang Zhao as more than Dong Mi, and he was “a person who is dignified and elegant”. This work was originally a couplet, which was later reassembled and combined into one axis. The text of this couplet was originally a couplet of Sui’an Room in the Hall of Nourishing the Heart, which was written by Emperor Qianlong himself.
