The author Ding Guanpeng, whose birth and death years and native place are unknown. During Emperor Qianlong’s reign, Emperor Gaozong served as a worshiper in the Inner Court Painting Academy. He is good at painting Buddha, Taoist statues and figures. He imitates the brushwork of Ding Yunpeng, a famous painter in the late Ming Dynasty, and also adopts the Western light and shadow perspective. The characters he paints are more delicate than the slightest, with the same appearance, bright, clean and elegant colors, and moderate depth. His painting skills are superb, which can be regarded as the first in the Qing painting academy, and his works can be regarded as the representative of the academy figure painting.
