  • Description:
Wang Jian (1598-1677), born in Taicang, was an orthodox painter in the early Qing Dynasty. This painting was painted by Wang Jian in 1663 to imitate Ni Zan’s Green Water Garden, which was hidden by his friend. The composition of “one river and two banks” and “folded belt chapped” are typical of Ni Zan’s style. However, Wang Jian used the inclined trees to continue the downhill mountain on the opposite bank; The long lines downward from the foreground slope also break the original sense of stability of Ni Zan’s parallel front and rear scenes, showing a more obvious momentum, which can be said to be a reinterpretation of Ni Zan’s style.
