This painting was originally one of the “twelve prohibitions” painted by Shen Yuan, a court painter of the Yongzheng and Qianlong dynasties. The title “Zhonglu (Zhonglu)” is one of the twelve laws of music. The ancients used the twelve laws in the calendar. According to the Book of Rites, Zhonglu is the month of Mengxia (April). This work has no model year. According to records, it was composed of 12 imperial poems selected in the 13th year of Qianlong reign (1748), and four painters were instructed to create three paintings each. This imperial poem describes a visit to Qingyin Studio in Yuquan Mountain in early summer, which is a scene in Jingming Garden. The painting not only depicts the Qingyin Studio, but also depicts the blooming flowers in the garden, so as to conform to the poetic mood.
