  • Description:
This bronze body painting enamel bag pattern snuff bottle has a special style. It combines western style and Japanese bag style decoration, and is a wonderful work representing the exchange of eastern and western crafts. The peacock tail pattern is used as the ground pattern, which is covered with a long blue and white plate pattern in the inner part and a bundle towel with a yellow tangled lotus pattern in the outer part. The enamel cover is painted with an ivory spoon, and its face is decorated with Ruyi cloud head patterns, echoing the patterns on the neck and shoulders. On the bottom, there is a single line (from right to left) of “Yongzheng Year” in Song typeface. According to the Qing Palace’s Work Record, in the 12th year of Emperor Yongzheng’s reign (1734), the emperor ordered several pieces of western peacock tail enamel snuff bottles to be fired as usual because he saw that the style was very good. In the same year, the office made two pairs of “baggage type peacock tail enamel snuff bottles”, and this bag pattern snuff bottle in the hospital should be one of them.
