- Description:
Ding Guanpeng was born and died in the fourth year of Yongzheng (1726), and served as a “painter” in the office of Yangxin Hall in the 35th year of Qianlong (1770). He is good at expository figures and imitates the brushwork of Ding Yunpeng (1547 – 1628) at the end of the Ming Dynasty. His antique paintings created a new style for the court paintings of that dynasty. Influenced by Western France, he also learned from Lang Shining about perspective painting and the method of setting light and shade in oil painting. The characters on the screen are dazzled, painted with delicate pens, dressed in gorgeous colors, emphasizing the sense of quality, and taking into account the traditional line drawing techniques, which is just in line with the taste of the Qing court. The theme is the activity of appreciating the moon in autumn for palace ladies, and osmanthus trees are planted all around to point out the season. The buildings are painted with the boundary painting method. The round and sharp top pavilions and rolling shed corridors are painted with “Fang Xin Color Painting”. The figures are arranged on the platform of the white marble Xumizuo. When dealing with figures, painters deliberately arrange the angles of front, side and back, emphasizing the correspondence between ladies. The caption on the painting: “Chen Ding Guanpeng’s Painting” and the two seals of “Chen Guanpeng’s Painting” and “Gong Hua”.
