Xu Yang was a native of Wuxian County during the Qianlong Dynasty (the second half of the 18th century). In the 16th year of Qianlong’s reign (1751), Emperor Gaozong visited Suzhou in the south. Xu Yangcheng’s paintings were appreciated, so he entered the painting academy and was awarded the title of a member of the staff. His official position was in the cabinet.
