Emperor Kangxi, Emperor Qianlong’s great grandfather of Buwu, made six southern tours. The route was similar. Whenever Emperor Kangxi once wrote something, he often followed rhymes and poems. The West Lake is a famous scenic spot in the south of the Yangtze River. Emperor Kangxi specially redefined the ten scenic spots and chanted them many times. Emperor Qianlong also loved the ten sceneries of the West Lake. Not only did he have poems on his six southern tours, but also he carried the pictures of the West Lake in the palace to prove the sceneries. After he returned to Luan, he ordered his officials to describe the scenery of the West Lake many times, matching with the imperial West Lake poems. Dong Bangda (1699-1769) was the painter who painted the most ten sceneries of the West Lake. This axis in this exhibition is one of the ten sceneries painted by him, “Double Peaks and Cloud Insertion”.
