Because of Tao Yuanming’s love for chrysanthemums, chrysanthemums have become a special favorite of scholars. September is the time when chrysanthemums are in full bloom, and planting chrysanthemums also has special skills. Therefore, everyone gathered their chrysanthemums together to watch and admire them, forming a chrysanthemum club. The picture depicts the scene of the chrysanthemum meeting. Boats, carrying potted plants and people, enjoy them calmly. In the wild, tourists are carrying food and drink, which is another scene of the Double Ninth Climbing. This nameless painting was created by a group of court painters during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. The painting was drawn from the “Huifang Academy” in Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty (a poem about forty scenes in the Old Summer Palace). The poem says, “You can climb up to the Stone Room.” The stone chamber can be seen above the painting.
