This axis is themed by the Third Prince (Santai), Nine Yang (Jiuyang), and Pine, Plum, and Bamboo (Three Friends). It emphasizes that “the cold will disappear in September, and the spring will return to bring peace”. It symbolizes that yin will disappear and yang will come. It is a sign of good luck. It belongs to the decorative pictures hung in the Qing Palace every New Year. In the Qing Dynasty, the tapestry weaving was delicate and varied. The blue ground color and landscape (colorful auspicious clouds, road stones and water surfaces) of this axis are made of Kesi. The figures, animals and plants are made of Kesi and a variety of embroidery methods. The plum blossom, pine needles, tree trunks and other parts are painted above the Kesi and embroidered ground patterns with a paintbrush, reflecting the complicated and perfect decorative style of the Qianlong period. The composition of the whole painting is full and rich, the color matching is exquisite and gorgeous, and the painting is full of festivity and auspiciousness. It is a classic work that combines Kesi, embroidery and painting arts.
