According to the archives of the Qianlong Dynasty (1746), there was a pair of large latticework in the Dongnuan Pavilion in front of the Hall of Mental Cultivation. The Emperor Qianlong requested that, in addition to placing antiques on the front, drawers be added behind the relatively thin antiques latticework. According to the Jiaqing Dynasty archives, the eight drawer wooden box can be restored as the back drawer.
