Shen Quan (1624-1684 AD) was born in Huating, Jiangsu (now Songjiang, Shanghai). In the ninth year of Shunzhi’s reign (1652), he went to the Imperial Academy to study as a bachelor. He studied calligraphy from Dong Qichang and Mi Fu and was the calligraphy consultant of Emperor Kangxi.
