The Jesuit missionary painter led by Lang Shining was instructed to draw many sketches of rare animals and birds that were paid tribute to the palace from all over the country. Emperor Qianlong also created a large number of poems for these paintings, some of which were included in the imperial poetry collection, while others were on the works. On the painting is Ji Huang’s imperial poem “Bai&# 40536; Xing”: “The falcon is like an orange, and the bird of prey is incomparably handsome.” Received in Volume 28 of the Second Collection of Imperial Poems of Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty.
